Mr Matechi secured grants for TB/HIV and Malaria, along with improving how these funds were utilized, and implemented new policies like shorter treatments and improved diagnostics (e.g., new rapid tests). Notably, the TA played a key role in transitioning the country to a shorter and more efficient TB preventive treatment regimen, ensuring all the necessary resources were in place for a smooth rollout.

The TA supported the planning and competition of the Global Fund TB grant, enhancing the country's capacity in TB prevention and care. His participation in TB conferences and training promoted evidence-based interventions, such as the BPAL regimen. The TA’s advocacy for better utilization of the Global Fund budget, and his leadership in national TB programme planning, set a clear direction for future TB care and prevention efforts in Tanzania.
The advisor was part of a technical panel that transitioned TPT from a six-month to a three-month regimen. This entailed ensuring the availability of commodities, trained staff and monitoring tools for smooth implementation.
