Mr Werdofa’s work bolstered Sierra Leone’s fight against TB by significantly improving the National TB Reference Laboratory (NTRL). The lab obtained basic quality certification, restarted key services, and expanded access to rapid diagnostics. Nationwide training programs equipped healthcare workers with improved skills in detecting and managing TB cases. This included specialized refresher courses on GeneXpert technology, delivered at 10 designated Xpert sites.

The TA rolled out a training and capacity-building programme targeting laboratory technicians and directly observed treatment providers. This programme included GeneXpert refresher courses delivered across 10 Xpert sites.
