Nigeria
Nigeria’s fight against TB received a boost from Dr Ochei’s technical support that tackled the disease on multiple fronts. A national laboratory plan improved practices, while a clever equipment tracking tool minimized downtime for crucial testing machines. This support went beyond equipment, with a nationwide survey launched to understand drug-resistant TB and lab staff receiving training to handle it. Even new diagnostic options were explored, with a study on stool-based TB testing. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders and addressing a range of needs, this technical support program is making a significant impact on Nigeria’s TB control efforts.

Development of the D-R survey protocol was one aspect of the TA's work. He also led capacity building for the laboratory team of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme. His assessment of TB Reference Laboratories identified areas for improvement and ensured better preparation for the survey. The TA's support for TRUENAT stool testing and his involvement in the monitoring and supervision of TB diagnostic tools aimed to enhance TB case detection and management across Nigeria. Advocacy and stakeholder engagement have been instrumental in fostering collaboration essential for the sustainable implementation of the TB programme.
