Eswatini’s fight against tuberculosis (TB) is gaining momentum with successful technical support from

Dr Thi secured crucial funding from the Global Fund and developed a plan to tackle drug-resistant TB. New guidelines for TB prevention and diagnosis, including using stool samples for children, were established. A national TB strategic plan is in place for the next five years, and a pilot program using artificial intelligence to improve TB detection from chest X-rays shows promise. By fostering collaboration between the National Tuberculosis Control Program and other stakeholders, the TA ensures everyone is working together. As the program enters its second year, finalizing protocols for AI-assisted screening and evaluating its effectiveness are key priorities. This collaborative effort will continue to support eSwatini in securing resources and implementing effective strategies to control TB.

The TA provided technical support for the review of TB screening algorithms among people living with HIV, and facilitated discussions on priority activities for reducing mortality among this group.
