LEAP Local Technical Advisers in four East Africa countries (Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda) were invited by their Ethiopian counterparts to the 18th Tuberculosis Research Advisory Council (TRAC) Conference in Addis Ababa from 22-24 March 2024.
TRAC is a voluntary coalition of professionals working in research, programme implementation and academia, and was established to promote evidence generation for informed decision making, experience-based planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of tuberculosis prevention and control activities in Ethiopia.
The USAID-funded Long-Term Exceptional Technical Assistance Project (LEAP) is a USAID initiative to assist 17 ministries of Health in Africa with locally relevant long-term and short-term expertise in infectious diseases such as TB, health systems and management. The programme is managed by Genesis Analytics.
The event was a great opportunity for a South-to-South Learning amongst LEAP Local advisers in East Africa. Key sessions were held on “Brief national status update and presentation on accelerated missed TB case finding and leprosy elimination campaign” and “What does and will take Ethiopia to end TB by 2030 and achieve UN High Level targets”. In commemoration of World TB Day 2024, the team joined the 4km walk under the theme, “Yes! You and I can end TB”.
On the last day of the visit the team visited Bishoftu Hospital DR TB Referral Centre.
